Now, let’s dive into a step-by-step breakdown of this itinerary, along with my top travel tips I learned to help you make the most of your Thai getaway.
Overview
- Phuket – 10 Days (Base, multiple activities and tours)
- Phi Phi Islands – 2 Days
- Koh Lanta – 2 Days
- Return to Phuket – For Departure
When to Visit Thailand
Thailand has two main seasons:
- Dry Season (Dec–May) – Best for beach trips and island hopping.
- Rainy Season (May–Nov) – Expect occasional showers and humidity.
Insider Tip: I visited in March, the weather was fantastic with just two brief storms. March hits the sweet spot before peak heat, making it a great time for this itinerary!
Where to Stay
- Phuket: Anda Beachside Hotel
- Phi Phi: Anita Resort
- Koh Lanta: Lanta Miami Resort
Each location is beachfront and centrally located, perfect for island vibes and convenience.
Wi-Fi & Connectivity
- Download the Airalo app for reliable e-SIM data – it’s my “go to” app everywhere I travel. The prices are very affordable and the connection & coverage are stable.
- Thai SIM cards are available, often with unlimited data, the downside is that it will translate some info on your phone in thai language.
- Revolut eSIM is also a good option if you’re already using the app
Food & Drinks
- Try the street food – Don’t miss local favorites like Pad Thai, Mango sticky rice, and grilled seafood (the fish is super fresh and delicious!)
- Taste the tropical fruits – Make sure to try dragon fruit, mango, baby pineapple, passion fruit, mangosteen, papaya, durian (known as the king of fruits, but be warned, it has a strong smell and isn’t for everyone!), rambutan, lychee, and many more.
- My top restaurant recommendations:
- Su Va Na – a very elegant and surreal dining experience
- Three Monkeys Restaurant – the famous jungle restaurant
- The Mango Garden – a must-visit for mango lovers
- Shabu In – great all-you-can-eat Japanese hotpot
How to Get Around Thailand
Phuket:
- Bolt app – the cheapest option in Phuket.
- Grab App – Safe, clean, and affordable taxis. Grab Taxi Service. Prices depend on the destination and the traffic , but it’s very affordable and convenient.
- InDrive – lets you suggest a price for your ride, and the driver can accept or make a counteroffer.
- Tuk Tuk – Fun for the experience, but pricey. Worth it once for the party vibe.
- Booked Tours – Most include transport and a guide. I highly recommend to book various tours ( as described below) . You will have a guide and transport.
Phi Phi Islands:
- Accessible by ferry from Phuket (approx. 3 hours)
- No vehicles on the island – everything is within walking distance. The whole island is just 12.06 km².
Koh Lanta:
- Ferry from Phi Phi (approx. 2 hours) – Book in advance at the Phi Phi port.
- Taxis are available at arrival. Ask the ferry staff or book one on-site.
I advise you to check this and Pre-book all ferries in advance as Thailand get crowded during tourist season.
How to Experience the Best of Thailand in 2 Weeks
Week 1 – Phuket Base Adventure
Day 1–3: Arrival & Local Exploration
- Arrive in Phuket and stay at Anda Beachside or contact Holiday Hacker for a different option
- Explore Karon Beach, Kata Beach, and the vibrant night markets
- Book a tour and visit Phuket Old Town, Big Buddha, and Wat Chalong Temple
- Relax at Nai Harn Beach then experience nightlife in Patong

Day 4–7: Island Excursions
- Book a tour to Similan Islands – Snorkeling, sunbathing, and scenic beauty
- Book a tour to James Bond Island & Hong Islands – Kayak through sea caves and enjoy lunch at a floating village
- Also, dine at Three Monkeys Restaurant – A jungle-themed culinary experience. Highly recommended !

Day 8–10: More Beaches & Downtime
- Next visit Freedom Beach, Kamala Beach, and afterward, enjoy a sunset cocktail at Café del Mar
- Book a tour to Coral Island & Racha Island day trip and definitely try transparent canoes and the beachside cocktails at the Kahung Beach Bar (they are just perfect) and if you are lucky like me you will be able to see the beautiful Hornbill birds.
Don’t forget a beach massage – only 400 THB!

Week 2 – Phi Phi & Koh Lanta Escape
Day 11–12: Phi Phi Islands
- Ferry to Phi Phi and check in at Anita Resort
- Visit Maya Bay, Monkey Beach, Viking Cave, and swim in secret lagoons
- Eat at Mango Garden, hike to Phi Phi Viewpoint, and sip cocktails at The Snug Bar
Day 13–14: Koh Lanta
- Take the ferry to Koh Lanta and stay at Lanta Miami Resort
- Book the 4 Islands & Emerald Cave (Koh Mook, Koh Chuek, Koh Kradan & Koh Ngai) tour by long-tail boat. Taking a long-tail boat means fewer crowds, so you can enjoy the experience much more compared to tours from Phi Phi, which are usually very busy.
End your trip with a sunset beach massage at the resort, they are perfect – 400 THB well spent

Day 15: Return to Phuket and Fly Home
Unfortunately, the Thai adventure is nearly over, however a smooth journey back is key!
So, here are a few things to keep in mind when returning to Phuket for your flight home , keep in mind I chose the first option :
- Option 1: Taxi from Koh Lanta to Phuket Airport
Yes, it’s possible and it was my choice, but it’s a long ride. The journey takes up to 7 hours, including a short car ferry from Koh Lanta to the mainland. From there, it’s around 280 km to Phuket Airport. The roads aren’t highways, so expect slower travel times. If you choose this option, plan your departure time carefully to avoid missing your flight, which i alsomost did 😀 plus it’s more pricey – around 7000 TBH
- Option 2: Ferry Route via Phi Phi
A more scenic option is to take a ferry from Koh Lanta to Phi Phi, then catch the main ferry from Phi Phi to Phuket. Once you arrive at the port in Phuket, you can either take a taxi to the airport or opt to spend one last night in Phuket to relax before flying out. This one is the more affordable option.
Whichever route you choose, factor in time for transfers and consider your flight schedule to avoid last-minute stres
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Underestimating transfer times – Island hopping can be time-consuming, so factor in time for ferry and road transfers.
- Similarly, ignoring traffic – Phuket especially gets heavy with the trafic, so plan accordingly and stay calm. Really, the trafic is alwful.
- Avoid touching monkeys – They may look cute, but they’re sneaky and sometimes aggressive so beware and admire them from a distance.
- Overpacking – Bring light clothes, flip-flops, and a waterproof bag. Less is more in Thailand’s tropical heat, especially in PhiPhi where there are no cars or transportation.
- Disrespecting local customs – Cover up when visiting temples, remove shoes, and always be respectful
Bonus Tips
- Travel insurance is a must
- Cash is king – especially in markets and local shops.
- Book in advance – While spontaneous trips sound fun, the best excursions and resorts sell out quickly, especially in peak season.
- Try street food – Don’t miss out on pad thai, mango sticky rice, and grilled seafood
